Dogs Play

In the animal kingdom play is a natural way to learn. Your dog, young or adult, is part of the that animal kingdom and therefore through some plaqy he/she will learn new lesson. Young pups are full of fun, they love to play rough and tumble. It's a natural way for them to explore the world around them.

Normally, in the wild, in a pack, dogs learn to restrain their behaviour, as they grow and develop, effectively learning 'social behaviour'. Normally, this education would be down to the mother, littermates, plus all the rest of the pack members including the pack leader. When we remove a dog, away from their natural surroundings, before that learning is complete, owners must replace that training and play is the perfect way to do it and this is exactly as it should be.

Letting a young dog play with other animals, you can help them to pick up the social skills they need. Both puppies and dogs need to play, not just with you, with each other. When they play, they play fight, that's how they will learn to restrain the biting habit, what they can and cannot do.

If they're too physical, the dogs they play with will respond so they will soon learn what's right and wrong. This form of natural play should be taken into account when training your dog. Play is fun and play makes your dog happy, training a happy dog is much easier, as they are so much more responsive.

Taking your dog to the park and training them to fetch is play, to a dog, it's a great game. You may decide to develop the fetch and play game further, as would be the case with the specific training of a gun dog. But it really is of no importance, as all your dog will remember is a good time.

He got to play, after all, no matter the level to which he has learnt you can put an element of play into any specific training you wish to. Whether it's getting your dog to go to their bed, or rolling over. Sitting, staying or walking well on the lead, much specific training can be taught through play.

Play is used for more professional training, for instance, show ring training. Training your dog agility is also a world of fun and games to your dog and even working dogs "Play" all day, they don't work. Police, drug, sheep dogs or search and rescue dogs, all these dogs have been trained by play; they're simply using their natural canine assets to have a good time.
