House training
House training dogs is not one of the most fun things you can do with your new, adorable dog. But hopefully when you get him/her home they will already have some degree of house training. You'll need lot's of old newspapers handy at first, and a good cleaner which kills the smell. This will hepl to stop the dog going back to the same place wheere they have made a mistake.
Last, but not least, with house training dogs you need lots of patience. Whether you live in a flat, apartment or house, your dog needs to learn how to control his wee/poo urges!
So as said, start by putting lots of paper down in the room where you keep your dog. Keep an eye on things and keep them there in the first few days. This will stop accidents happening where they shouldn't. Look out for indications that they need to go to the toilet, like sniffing around the room, looking for a spot, or turning around in circles.
The second you observe these actions, either put him out or onto the paper, then lots of praise when he's a good boy. Make sure you pick up the paper with the urine on it and place it on a fresh piece for a few seconds. This is to put the scent of your puppies urine on the fresh piece, then throw it away. Wash the floor immediately where the paper has been, so that none of the smell of urine is left on your floor. A young dog, less than six months old, can't control urination more than a couple of hours so they need house training.
Dog house training is a bit hit and miss, "literally", at first, but your dog/puppy will get the idea, certainly much quicker than you racing to pick him up and placing him on the paper. Some smaller breeds of dog are slower at this, so be patient. Once your puppy gets the idea to urinate on the paper, it is time to slowly move the paper to your outside door.
This will show your dog where he really needs to do his business. This will take a few weeks and should not be rushed. As soon as your dog/puppy can go to the paper by the door, put the paper outside. Remind your dog regularly where the paper is, until he is going to the door and remember, patience is a virtue for this training.
