Basics of dog training

At the core of dog training is people's desire to want their pets to live with them, inside the home. Therefore, basic training techniques have to be used whether you have a new puppy or have just brought a rescue dog home. There's no big secrets to the basics of training, although watching some of the latest dog training programs it might seem that way.

How to train dogs is one of the common worries when you decide to take the plunge. The basics of dog training are based on two principles. Your dog must understand why he is being praised, and why is being corrected that is the fundamental tact of any good dog trainer. The basics are easy and quick to teach your dog. Dealing with the more everyday obedience problems you may experience with an adult or new puppy.

You'd be surprised, at just how much easier life can be, just with a few simple 'rules' in place, it really can make a world of difference. After all, there is no point just standing around moaning about your dog's behaviour, he's never going to learn anything that way.

It is down to the owner, to train their dog, and be responsible, when dealing with the basics of training; you will need to be disciplined. Just like you are asking your dog to be, regardless of how basic the training seems it has to be enforced consistently. It is the only way your dog can learn, and understand what you're asking of him.

Again, the are two fundamental, golden rules to follow. The first is if you didn't actually catch your dog raiding the fridge, or leaving a wet patch on the carpet, you shouldn't correct him for it.

Because they must understand what they are being corrected for. The second is when they do something correctly, lots and lots of praise, like the punishment, they must understand the praise, the basics of training are based on this. You dog must understand the difference between right, and wrong, if you keep the signals clear, your dog will learn.

It is surprising how many people miss the most obvious, and relatively simple, concepts of training. Often, that is why their dog becomes confused, by the 'mixed signals,' and may not respond well to basic training but if you are not consistent, you will be repeating yourself for an eon. This is also why many owners eventually give up, when it comes to the basics of training. Stick to these fundamental principles, stay controlled and consistent, and you, and your dog, will be fine.
