Miniature Schnauzer
Small and square, the Miniature Schnauzer is a sweet dog with a lot of character. It has distinguishing facial features such as a thick beard and eyebrows. The fairly long outer coat is often black, silver and white and the undercoat is soft and smooth. The tail is often docked and the facial fur is trimmed which accentuates the dog's square appearance. It has dark, almond shaped eyes. It has v-shaped ears. The Miniature Schnauzer's ears fold forward naturally of tend to stand upright when cropped. The nose is black.

Intelligent, affectionate and full of energy, these dogs are great little pets. The Miniature Schnauzer is a dog that prefers the company of people to other dogs. It can actually become very aggressive towards other dogs. They tend to attack larger dogs without consideration. They make excellent family pets. Although they tend to bark a lot, they are excellent watchdogs. They also make very good guard dogs. Cautious of unfamiliar people, they are very loving to those they know. |
Health issues : |
Although this is generally a healthy breed, some may be afflicted by kidney stones. Also, liver disease, eye problems and weight gain are all issues faced by this fine breed. |
Exercise : |
Daily walking for a fair amount of time is the key to maintaining fitness levels fir this little, energetic dog. Runs in the park and long, brisk walks are what they prefer. |
Life expectancy : |
These dogs age very well. They tend to live for a long time too! The average life expectancy for this breed is sometimes in excess of fifteen years. |
Grooming : |
It is important to brush or comb these dogs on a daily basis in order to keep them looking their best. A firm wire brush should be used. They are fairly easy to look after because of this. Clipping them all over twice a year is also essential. They tend to shed very little, if any hair so they are very easy to look after. |
