Boston Terrier
The Boston Terrier is a very muscular dog. The head is broad and flat and it has a short muzzle. The muzzle and nose tend to be black. With a broad chest and straight, muscular legs, the Boston Terrier is a small dog with a lot of confidence. With short hair and a coat that is usually coloured white, brindle, brown or black, this small dog has a lot of character and a unique look about it.
Temperament : |
Originally bred for fighting for entertainment, the Boston Terrier has since become a much less viscous animal. Aggression has been left behind and replaced with more gentle, docile attributes. It is a highly intelligent dog and lots of energy and enthusiasm. Training it is a simple task as it loves to learn. It is a lovely, affectionate and caring dog. It shows consideration and tends not to bark too loudly or for no apparent reason. Reasonable watchdogs, they sometimes do not bark when perhaps they should. |
Health issues : |
Respiratory problems are the result of the short, quite squashed up face. Heat and cold can influence this further. Snoring is also a reported issue for them. |
Exercise : |
Staying fit and healthy is easy for these energetic dogs. A small to medium sized garden is all they need. Long walks and runs in the park are only necessary infrequently whereas short walks are ideal. |
Life expectancy : |
They tend to live for around fifteen years or possibly even longer, provided that their lifestyles are healthy and they get lots of exercise. |
Grooming : |
Grooming is, thankfully very easy. Combing and brushing with a firm bristle brush is the key. Bathing is only required occasionally. Shedding fur at an average rate, this dog can be groomed a few times a week at the most to ensure it looks its best. |
