Pomeranian
This dog is tiny. The Pomeranian is a fluffy, long haired dog with a triangular shaped head and ears that stand up on top of its head. They resemble foxes and have bright eyes. The nose is generally dark. The coat is found in various colours that are usually solid. These include orange, brown, black, cream and white. Sometimes the Pomeranian has a coat that has a mixture of some of these colours.
Temperament : |
This dog is very chirpy and active. The Pomeranian is not only lively but also very intelligent and sometimes can even be slightly wilful. They have great confidence in their own abilities and therefore have no problems in attacking other, usually larger dogs. An excellent watchdog, this breed is eager to learn and they have a very friendly, amicable nature. Too much attention can lead to them becoming rather snappy though! Being so docile and affectionate are great attributes for this dog's owners and looking after this breed is generally a very enjoyable task. Firm handling and constant training can ensure that this great little dog excels and achieves the levels of obedience that its family desires. |
Health issues : |
Dislocation of their knees is sometimes an issue for these dogs. Heart conditions and skin problems may also prove to be difficulties experienced by this breed. Gum disease and tooth decay are issues as well so feed them lots of dry food to combat this. |
Exercise : |
Exercising alone is a lonely but very effective way of ensuring that these dogs get the fitness levels they require. A small to medium sized garden is all they need. Long walks and runs in the park are ideal for this dog that's full of energy however so take them on long walks to provide them with sufficient levels of exercise. |
Life expectancy : |
These dogs usually live for a long time in relative terms and this is generally for around fifteen years. |
Grooming : |
Grooming is not as simple as many would prefer. The long coat needs to be brushed frequently. It is not difficult but tends to take a long time. The soft, smooth undercoat only sheds fur a few times a year. This dog is however very prone to shedding a lot of fur. Dry shampooing is necessary but very infrequently. Ensure its teeth are clean through regular checkups as they tend to decay quickly. |
