Brittany Spaniel

The Brittany Spaniel is a medium-sized, leggy dog with a fairly short, lightly feathered single coat. This dog is agile and active with amber or hazel eyes depending on the coat colour. The Brittany Spaniel has a ram-shaped muzzle and a rounded head of medium length. The nose may not be black. This breed has high-set short ears in a triangular shape that hang close to the head. The Brittany or Epagneul Breton is accepted in 5 colours (Orange & White, Liver & White, Black & White, Liver Tri-colour, and Black Tricolour).




Temperament :

With more than average intelligence, the Brittany Spaniel is trained for hunting. This dog has a loving, gentle temperament and as a breed is eager to please it's owners. An active, affectionate and independent breed, they are also low maintenance (although they can become hyperactive or nervous sometimes).

The Brittany Spaniel mixes well with people and other dogs, especially when bought up to be this way. They are good with children and are versatile to very different types of terrain. Although used especially for hunting woodcock, partridge, and hare, it is also popular as a companion dog due to it's affectionate nature. This dog and is always active, enthusiastic, and untiring as well as a remarkable instinct for retrieving from water.

Health issues :

Generally they are not prone to developing any major breed-specific conditions. Potential hip problems and seizures/fits are the only common issues.

Exercise :

Britaany Spaniels love exercise and therefore are at one with the great outdoors. They possess great stamina and can be a great companion for hunting. As well as exercising in the garden, ensure they get lots of walks and runs in the park.

Life expectancy :

Usually they live for about ten to twelve years.

Grooming :

With a flat, medium length coat, you need to be brushing regularly. They are a light shedder, and should be bathed when needed. Check around the ears if the dog has been through bushes or nettles.
